No offence taken at all :-) I am one of these "friends only" people however, a general portion of my posts are open to the public (silly quizzes, generic musings and tasty recipes). It would be more correct to say that I have a friends "filter" on my journal.
It wasn't always thus. I think I'm a little bit of a control freak and some of the things I write about I find a little personal. Impersonal enough to write about in a semi-public forum and too personal for open viewing on the web. My views on this waiver occasionally as I am a general voyeur and love to read even the most mundane "everyday" posts that other people write. Even if I don't know the author.
I also like the idea that there is some esoteric exchange of value in this "friending" process. There is the participation and unsaid expectation that someone else will "friend" you once you have added them and in return, reveal to you a secret layer of info in their protected posts.
